(10/13/10) Robert S. Carlson, 77, passed away Sunday at home. He was the beloved husband of Kathryn (Barber) Carlson. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late George and Ella (Nelson) Carlson.
Mr. Carlson was an Assistant Vice President and Chief Engineer of Valley Resources, now National Grid, from 1961 until his retirement in 1994. A Korean War Veteran, he served in The United States Army.
He was a graduate of U.R.I., class of 1961 and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Mr. Carlson was long active in St. Luke\'s Parish groups.
He was active with Boy Scouts for over 60 years, serving as Scoutmaster of Troop 82 in Providence, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a member of the N.E. Gas Assn., American Gas Assn., and Blackstone Valley Gas and Electric Association.
He was the loving step father of Mark A. Berube of Coventry ad Evan R. Berube of Riverside. Cherished uncle of Donald R. Carlson of Old Greenwich, CT and Laura J. Carlson of East Greenwich. He was the brother of the late Raymond A. Carlson.
A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated Saturday at 11:00 am in St. Luke\'s Episcopal Church, Peirce Street, East Greenwich. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited.
