(12/08/13) Edward T. Gofton, 87, of Warwick, died Saturday, December 7, 2013 at home. He was the loving husband of Beverly Ann (Gargani) Gofton for over 55 years. Born in East Providence, he was a son of the late Frederick C. and Elizabeth (Worthington) Gofton.
Mr. Gofton was a Banker at the former Union National Trust, Industrial National Bank, and the Fleet Bank, for many years before retiring, 20 years ago. During WWII, Edward served in the United States Navy. In addition, he was a member of the U.S. Navy Armed Guard Veterans Association.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son Jeffrey D. Gofton of Coventry, two daughters Ann Diver of Princeton N.J., Lisa E. Widmann of Warwick and his brother Albert F. Gofton of Warwick. He was the grandfather of eight and the brother of the late Francis C. Gofton.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10:00am in THE URQUHART â MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Ave., Warwick. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 3-7pm.
