(01/02/14) Warwick - Walter M. Anderson, Sr., 95, formerly of Wendell Road died Wednesday at West Bay Manor. He was the loving husband of the late Agnes M. (Hooper) Anderson. Born in Providence, a son of the late John E. and Ella (Anderson) Anderson, he served in the United States Army during World War II with the Headquarters Battery 277th Field Artillery Battalion. He was a tool maker & machinist employed by Gorham Manufacturing for almost 50 years retiring as Foreman of the Machine Shop. He was a member of Harmony Lodge 9 F&AM, Cranston; Scottish Rite Valley of Providence and the Rhode Island Shriners. He was a former member of the Church of the Transfiguration, Cranston. He loved to play bridge; enjoyed playing golf and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. He is being remembered by his family as a faithful, sweet and gentle man. He is survived by one daughter: Christine A. Sirr of North Kingstown; two sons: James H. Anderson of Wilbraham, MA and John E. Anderson of Chagrin Falls, OH; seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Walter M. Anderson, Jr. and the brother of the late Lloyd Anderson and Margit Miller-Smith. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2014 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. His funeral service will be held on Monday, January 6, 2014 at 10:00 am in Quidnessett Baptist Church, 6356 Post Road, North Kingstown. Burial with military honors will be in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown.
