(05/15/14) Elsie I. (Beech) Cardin, 86, of Warwick passed away on April 27, 2014 at Westview Health Care. She was the wife of the late Joseph A. Cardin to whom she was married for 58 years. Born in Attleboro, MA, Elsie was the daughter of the late Charles and Irene (Midgely) Beech.
She was the beloved mother of Marcia L. Clifford of Coventry, Richard D. Cardin and his wife Pamela of Davenport, FL and Joseph C. Cardin and his wife Janet of Lincoln. Elsie is also survived by her six grandchildren, as well as five great-grandchildren.
Elsie devoted her life to the service of others and spent decades as a Registered Nurse with the Pawtuxet Valley Visiting Nurse Association and Eleanor Slater Hospital, after graduating from the Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing. She stayed active during retirement, frequently traveling with her husband and attending musical theatre productions at venues along the East Coast.
Elsie was an avid reader, and she enjoyed shopping, the Red Sox, and playing mahjong with her closest friends. She also took great joy in caring for many cats throughout her life.
Her family members are invited to a committal service on Saturday, May 17, 2014 in R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter and may gather at the administration building of the cemetery at 10:45 am.
