(05/26/14) Cumberland – Albert A. Jackson, Jr., 81, of Mendon Road died Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Bayberry Commons, Burrillville. He was the husband of the late Lois F. (Rainey) Jackson. Born in Pawtucket a son of the late Albert A. and Florence (McCullough) Jackson, he had lived in Pawtucket for most of his life before moving to Cumberland in 1996. He was a professional softball player (the first original replacement player) for the King and his Court for 23 years, where he was the longest in-service player. Al and Eddie Feigner developed a special intuition for their behind-the-back pick-off of the runner at first base. Also, their co-ordination of the blindfold pitching routine was incredible, as Al’s eyes were necessary to protect Eddie in case of a line drive. Al coached and won State Championships with the St. Raphael’s Girls, and later, the Lincoln High School Girls Softball Teams. He also won State Championships as the Baseball Coach of the Collette Travel Team in the American Legion League. Upon his retirement from softball, he also worked as a clerk at the former Lincoln Greyhound Park, Lincoln. He was a member of the Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket. He was a Korean War Army veteran. He is survived by one daughter, Gayle Bavaro and her partner, David Chan of Las Vegas, NV; two sons, Keith Jackson and his wife, Lynn of Pawtucket and Kevin Jackson and his wife, Patricia of Scituate; one foster daughter, Sandra Ray of Phoenix, AZ; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Cheryl Rebello, the grandfather of the late Christopher Jackson, Lee A. Rebello and Corey Bavaro, and the brother of the late Kenneth Jackson and Alice Soltys.
