(09/05/14) John Medeiros, 78, of West Warwick passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Evelyn (Mota) Medeiros for 49 wonderful years. Born in West Warwick, he was a son of the late Antonio Medeiros, Sr. and Mary Rose (Lima) Medeiros.
John served with the Kent County Sheriff\'s Department Third Division at the Kent County Courthouse, retiring as Captain in 2003 after 34 years of service. He was an active communicant of St. Anthony Church in West Warwick. He was a member of the Holy Ghost Society, the Fraternal Order of Police and the Kent County Sheriffs Association.
He was the devoted father of Joanne M. Scanlon and her husband Michael (Lieut. NKFD) of West Warwick and Renee C. Dwyer and her husband James of Cranston. Loving grandfather of Logan John Dwyer. Cherished brother of Theresa Lemery-Platt of Coventry, Dorothy Jackson of California, Lillian Couture of Maine, Antonio Medeiros, Jr. of West Virginia and the late Manuel Medeiros. Caring uncle of many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 9:00 am from THE PRATA-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Anthony Church, Maple Avenue, West Warwick. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich. Relatives and friends are invited. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-8 pm.
