(09/09/14) Arthur J. Dias, 69, of Coventry passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Cindy S. Shippee. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Arthur J. Dias, Sr. and Christine (Martra) Dias.
Mr. Dias was a Community Living Aide for the State of Rhode Island.
He served in The United States Army and was stationed in Vietnam in 1968-69. He joined the V.F.W. Kelly Gazzero Post # 2812 where he volunteered his services 3-4 days a week since joining in 1972 and served as Jr. Vice Commander for 3 years and a trustee for 23 years. He was also a member of the American Legion and D.A.V.
Arthur was a very compassionate, humble and well-loved gentleman who touched the hearts of all those he helped and was known for his extreme sense of humor. He was also a lover of music.
He was the loving father of Arthur Dias, III of Warwick, Debra M. (Dias) Fonseca of Ocala, FL and Dawn (Dias) Pinto of Pawtucket. Caring step father of James Mello of Coventry. Cherished grandfather of Robert Dias, Joseph Dias, Romeo Dias, Maia Fonseca, Astraea Fonseca and Italia Dias. Devoted great grandfather of Robert Dias, Jr. and Jullian Dias.
Relatives and friends may gather on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at 10:45 am at the Administration Building of the R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, South County Trail, Exeter followed by a Committal Service with Military Honors at 11:00 am.
