(10/02/14) BOUDREAU, Armand D. Sr., âCowboyâ, 90, formerly of Coutu Court, West Warwick, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014 at Bethany Home of RI in Providence.
He was the husband of Doris M. (Joyal) Boudreau, they had been married for 65 years. Born in Warwick, he was the son of the late Conrad and Laure (Matteau) Boudreau. He was a lifelong resident of West Warwick.
Mr. Boudreau enlisted with the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict before retiring after serving 20 years. He was a lifetime member and three-time past commander of the Sgt. David Langevin VFW Post #449 and the West Warwick American Legion Post 2.
Mr. Boudreau met his wife Doris at the USO in Providence and they were married January 29, 1949 in St. John the Baptist Church in West Warwick. He had a very distinguished military career including combat operations during WW II and the Korean Conflict. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942, the day after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, at age 17 and spent 20 years serving his nation. He served in the Army as a tank commander under General Patton and fought in the most significant tank battles this nation has ever seen. He survived the Normandy Beach invasion, the Battle of the Bulge and drove a tank through the outskirts of Berlin, downtown Paris and Tokyo during World War II. He was in Korea when the Chinese crossed the border Christmas day 1950 and was part of the campaign to push the Chinese back to the 38th parallel. He retired in 1962 as a Sergeant First Class out of Natick, Massachusetts. Mr. Boudreau was a highly decorated solider with numerous Campaign Awards.
A very generous man who would give you the shirt off his back, Mr. Boudreau enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting junk, marching in parades, watching stock car racing, walking, eating ice cream and drinking coffee at the local diners. He was also very active in local organizations and his accomplishments include erecting memorials for fallen veterans and every Memorial Day for decades he placed American flags at veteranâs memorial sites and graves.
Besides his wife he leaves his children, Laure M. Paul of Warwick, Armand D. Boudreau, Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO, Keith P. Boudreau of Crestview, FL and Renee J. DeMello of Warwick; a sister, Yvette Halleck in Stephentown, NY; eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
His funeral will be held on Monday, Oct. 6, 2014 at 9 am from the HENAULT-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 5 Eddy St., West Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am in St. John the Baptist Church, Washington St., West Warwick. Interment will follow with military honors in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
