(11/13/10) John W. Murphy, 85, formerly of Clark Mill Road, Coventry, RI passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 11, 2010 surrounded by his family at Kent County Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Natalie Murphy for 62 years. Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Ralph and Elizabeth (Cottle) Murphy. Relocating to Coventry in his early years, his family lived off of Hopkins Hill Road before he entered WWII. Upon return from the war he met and married Natalie and together they purchased wooded land on Clark Mill Road and made this their home for most of his life.
John was a lace weaver by trade, but also a gifted carpenter who built his own home and enjoyed making furniture for his children. For the majority of his career John worked at the Narragansett Brewery in Cranston. He lived the virtues of honesty, hard work, and demonstrating respect for others. John and Natalie immensely enjoyed living and raising a family in the country and had great respect for nature. John was predeceased by his three brothers; Fred, Ralph and Robert, and his eldest son; John, Jr. Besides his wife, John leaves two daughters; Carol and Judy and one son; Joseph, as well as nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Services will be private.
