(01/19/15) Warwick - James W. Hummel, 95, of Capron Farm Drive, died Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Brentwood Nursing Home, Warwick. He was the beloved husband of the late Gladys D. (Dickerson) Hummel.
Born in Long Eaton, England, a son of the late Edward J. and Emma (Wright) Hummel, his family came to the United States in 1923. He graduated from Barrington High School in 1937. He attended Northeastern University for several years before serving during World War II in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He moved to Warwick in November of 1952.
Jim worked in the jewelry manufacturing industry for B.A. Ballou for 35 years retiring as Human Resources Manager in 1985. He was a 50 year member of Edgewood Congregational Church in Cranston.
He is survived by two sons: Stuart D. Hummel & his wife Judy of North Kingstown and Bruce E. Hummel & his wife Terry of Verona, WI. He was âGrampsâ to his six grandchildren: Holly Grennan, Harris, Abby, Neal, Nathan and Nicholas Hummel and his three great grandsons: Anderson, Patrick & Alexander Hummel. He was the brother of the late Mary Hummel, Doris Mandeville & Nellie VanDyke, Henry, Ernest, Arthur, John & Robert Hummel.
Funeral service at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick on Saturday, January 24 at 2:00 PM. Calling hours prior to the service from 1â2 PM. Interment will be in Maple Root Cemetery, Coventry.
