Irene M (Mitchell) Stamp - , RI

(02/09/15) Stamp, Irene M. (Mitchell) was born on June 9, 1927 in Cranston, RI to Lt. Col. John and Lisette (Martin) Mitchell. She graduated from Cranston High School (East) in 1945. She was an active member of her class, serving as class secretary and a member of student council. Upon graduation from high school, Irene joined the Nurse Cadet Corp where she received her training as a registered nurse through its affiliation with Trusdale Hospital in Fall River, MA. Following graduation in 1948, Irene was employed as a R.N. at Lying-In Hospital in Providence until her marriage. Irene Married Frederick Michael Stamp on July 1, 1950. Fritz and Irene were married for 40 years until Fritz\'s death in 1990. Irene is survived by four children: Frederick Michael Stamp Jr. (Natalia Duarte) of Santa Cruz, CA; Kristen Elizabeth Donewald (Blair Donewald) of Wallingford, CT; Kathy Barbara Fruggerio (Robert Fruggerio) of Cranston, RI and John Mitchell Stamp (Pamela Stamp) of Saunderstown, RI. Irene was a proud grandmother of James (Michelle), Catherine and Lisette Donewald; Robert, Michael and Rebecca Fruggerio; Haley and Sean Stamp. Irene also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and dear friends, especially Helen Werner Spink of Warwick. She is predeceased by her sister, Barbara G. (Mitchell) Vosburgh and her husband Robert Vosburgh. Irene was a deeply committed member of St. Paul\'s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Providence since the age of twelve. Her years of service to her church community included her work as an Altar and Ruth Guild member as well as singing in the church choir. Irene also supported her husband in the management of F.M. Stamp Inc. Irene\'s funeral service will take place at St. Paul\'s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 445 Elmwood Avenue, Providence, RI 02907 on Saturday February 14 at 10 AM. Calling hours will be Friday from 4-8 PM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, RI. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul\'s Church Altar Guild.
