(07/15/15) FURTADO, Robert R., 82, of West Warwick, passed away Monday evening, July 13, 2015 at Coventry Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
He was the beloved husband of Jeannette B. (Bisson) Furtado; they had been married for 60 years. Born in West Warwick, a son of the late Manuel and Irene (Mattias) Furtado. He was a lifelong resident of West Warwick.
Mr. Furtado was a machinist at Brown & Sharpe for 20 years then was employed at Rochâs Fruit & Produce for 10 years before retiring. He was a Korean War Air Force Veteran, a former chairman of the West Warwick Republican Party, a member of the Portuguese American Sports Club and enjoyed Quahogging.
Besides his wife he leaves three daughters, Debra A. Ryder and Gail I. Landi, both of Warwick and Kim Gemma of West Warwick; two sons, Richard R. Furtado of Warwick and David M. Furtado of Stonington, CT; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Thomas Furtado.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, July 20, 2015 at 10 am in St. Anthony Church, Maple Ave., West Warwick. Interment with military honors will follow in RI Veterans Cemetery. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
