(09/08/15) Richard A. Nixon, 91, of Warwick passed away on Monday, September 7, 2015 at home. He was the beloved husband of Maureen J. (Maloney) Nixon. Born in Cranston, he was the son of the late Richard A. and Lillian (Redding) Nixon.
Mr. Nixon was a History Teacher at Cranston West High School where he also served as Athletic Director. He served in The United States Navy during WW II, in the invasion of Iwo Jima. He was an avid golfer.
He was the loving father of Kevin T. Nixon and his wife Naomi of Stonington, CT, Kerry R. Nixon and his wife Donna, Kim M. Nixon and his wife Rosemary and Robert A. Nixon and his wife Pamela, all of Warwick and Richard J. Nixon and his wife Linda of Saunderstown. Cherished grandfather of nine and great grandfather of four. Caring brother of Anne Thayer of Portsmouth.
His funeral will be held on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 10:00 am from THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 3252 Post Road, Warwick. Burial, with military honors, in R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5-8 pm.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory to St. Jude Childrenâs Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 would be appreciated.
