(12/27/15) Laura Virginia (Mumper) Booth, 93, of Warwick, RI with her family around her, died peacefully on Sunday, December 27, 2015. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert H. Booth.
She was born in Wheeling, WV to the late Arthur E. and Laura W. (Holmes) Mumper. She later moved to and lived in Cleveland, Minerva and Hillsboro, Ohio prior to moving to RI in 1970 where she lived in Rumford, Barrington and then Warwick.
She is survived by four children: Robert T. Booth of West Warwick, RI, Laura L. Johnston and her husband Chris of East Greenwich, Pamela J. Booth of Hillsboro, OH and Deborah L. Bemis and her husband Jim of North Stonington, CT; eight beloved grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three soon-to-be great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, friends and a very special niece, Terrall Shahbaghlian of La Mirada, California. She will be greatly missed by her beloved granddaughter, Kym Black who was her constant companion; furthermore her extended families: the Johnston, Evron and Mattioli families, who all welcomed her in and made her their own.
She was predeceased by five siblings, Robert, Dale, Alyce, Shirley and Wylie.
Laura was from a generation where taking care of the home was her full time job. It goes without saying that she was a wonderful cook and homemaker; however thats not all she did. She held various positions throughout her life, from department store window designer to draftsman, real estate agent and retail. She was an avid nature lover and gardener, leaving behind beautiful landscapes at all her homes. Other interests she had were painting, sewing, crafting and had a lifelong love of reading which she instilled in her children. In her downtime she was tirelessly volunteering where she could.
She was an artist at heart, whom in her sixties enrolled in a California college and graduated with an Associate Degree in Art. She was remembered by her peers as having a great sense of humor and a quick wit.
We would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Kent Regency who fell in love with her and took such excellent care of not only her, but us as well. Gratitude needs to be given also to her roommate Cynthia, an angel who watched over her day and night.
Because no one ever left her home hungry, we are asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the RI Food Bank, 200 Niantic Avenue, Providence, RI 02907 or www.rifoodbank.org.
When you are sorrowful look again in your heart and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight. Kahil Gibran
