(12/14/10) William E. Stearns, \"Bill\", 89, of Manchester Circle, Coventry, RI, passed away on Monday, December 13, 2010 at home.
Born in Cranston, RI, he was the husband of Elizabeth F. (McCaffrey) Stearns. They were married for 57 years.
He was the son of the late Alvin Wyss and the late Beatrice (Stearns) Wyss. He was an LPN for the RI Hospital Pathology Dept for twenty-two years before retiring. He also worked as a bus driver for the West Warwick and East Greenwich school systems and as an LPN for Kent Regency in Warwick, RI. He was a greeter and worked in the garden shop at Walmart in Coventry, RI for six years and he volunteered at the RI Food Bank. He called BINGO for four different senior centers. He also enjoyed playing the piano at the Coventry Senior Center, enjoyed gardening and flowers and was affectionately known as \"Mr. Fix It\" for his repair skills.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his three daughters; Michaeleen F. Courtney and her husband Richard, Susanne D. White, and Patricia L. Parent and her husband Lee, as well as six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, December 19, 2010 at 3:00 PM in the Gorton-Menard Funeral Home, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. Calling hours will be from 2:00-4:00 PM. Coffee and refreshments will be served immediately after at the Knotty Oak Community Room. His burial will be private.
