(03/08/16) COLBURN, Gail L. (Ennis), 64, surrounded by her family and in peace at home, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016. She will be forever missed by her husband Robert A. Bob Walsh, Jr. of East Greenwich, her son Erik B. Colburn and his wife Jennifer Wunderlich of Cranston, and her daughter Katie E. Moniz and her fiancé Joe Bentley of East Providence.
Gail is the daughter of the late Lloyd Bim Ennis and his wife Eileen Ennis, and of Winnifred (Champlin) Ennis, the devoted niece of Virginia Champlin, and is survived by three siblings: Barry Ennis and his wife Jane of South Kingstown, Joanne Morris and her husband John of Micco, FL, Susan Adkins and her husband Daniel of Davie, FL, many nieces and nephews and countless Union sisters and brothers.
Gail worked as an Assistant Executive Director (Uniserv) for the National Education Association Rhode Island until illness prevented her from continuing, but never gave up her leave status, always hoping to return. She was a zealous, tireless advocate for her members, and a mentor, leader, guide and teacher to many, and she had a special place in her heart for Education Support Professionals. Her passing on International Working Womens Day was profound.
Gail loved her family and friends, the beach and ocean, her gardens and flowers, and learning new things every day. She was the strongest person we know and faced down incredible challenges without ever complaining she defeated breast cancer and always beat expectations until her last breath.
A Life Celebration for Gail will take place at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, RI at 4:00 pm on Sunday, March 13. Visitation will be from 1:00 4:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the NEARI Childrens Fund, 99 Bald Hill Road, Cranston, RI 02920 or the ALS Association, 1637 Warwick Avenue, Warwick RI 02889. Remembrances may be shared at carpenterjenks.com.
