(09/13/11) Mary Josephine Manning, 84, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2011 at Kent Regency Nursing Home after a long struggle with Alzheimer\\\'s disease. Ms. Manning was the daughter of William J. Manning and Elizabeth (Hansen) Manning of East Providence and the sister of the late William J. Manning Jr., formerly from Bow, New Hampshire. She is survived by a nephew William J. Manning III of Canterbury, New Hampshire, and a niece Jane Whelan of Concord, New Hampshire and two cousins Anita Durigan of Deep River, Connecticut and Dorothy Larner of Reading, Massachusetts. Ms. Manning is a graduate of Bryant College in Providence, receiving a Bachelors\\\' in Economics and earned a Master of Library Science degree from the University of Rhode Island. She was employed at New England Telephone Company for 20 years, the Bryant College Library for 2 years and retired as the Chief of Reference Services at the Community College of Rhode Island. She leaves behind her best friend of 43 years, Jane Allaire, with whom she traveled to Hawaii, Canada, Switzerland, London, Paris and Ireland along with yearly visits to Jean and Richard Bailey, friends in Arizona. Her gentleness and compassion has touched the lives of many and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her funeral will be held Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 8:00am from THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Ave., Warwick, (Exit 12A off of I-95) with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 3250 Post Rd., Warwick. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Funeral Home, Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9pm.
