Alfred "AL" D Sauro - , RI

(11/07/11) SAURO, ALFRED D., \'Al\", of Warwick since 1960, passed away Saturday November 5, 2011 at Philip Hulitar Home & Hospice Care of RI. Born in Providence, a son of the late Angelo Michael and Teresa (Vannelli) Sauro. He is the husband of Grace J. (Palazzo) Sauro. Besides his beloved wife, he is survived by one son; Joseph M. Sauro of Pawcatuk, CT , one daughter; Dianne M. Gianmarco of Warwick, RI; five grandchildren; Michael, Marissa, Matthew, Peter and Gabriella and one great-granddaughter; Chloe Grace. He was the brother of Phyllis DePasquale of Greenville and Elaine Primmer of Portland, CT. He was the brother of the late Sally Plourde, Mary Hobson and Lee Oliver. Mr. Sauro served in the U.S. Coast Guard, World War II in both Theatres, France, Japan and Philippines. Charter member of the Warwick Soccer Association and coached soccer for four years and League President for five years. Also coached Apponaug Little League Baseball. He was a graduate of LaSalle Academy and two technical schools; RI Radio & Electronics and New England Tech. Electronics. Mr. Sauro was a former employee, Quonset Point, NAS. for 23 years as Electronics, Radar Systems & Instrument Technician until closing in 1974. Employed for fourteen years at Burton Industries, a highly technical electronic firm as Manager of Service Repair and Parts Dept\'s. Semi retired in 1987. Employed as a Travel Agent for the CWT/Donovan Travel Agency for 13 years, specializing in Hawaii Tours. In year 2001 started his own Motorcoach Tour Business, called Al & Grace Aloha Tours. He loved and cherished Hawaii like no one else. He visited and vacationed there no less than 12 times and escorted many large groups to his Paradise and sometimes just for two. In his retirement years, he operated bus tours for friends and family and making people happy was a real joy for him. He also produced Hawaiian Shows. He was a communicant of St. Timothy Church, Warwick since 1960 and was very active in Church activities. Was a member of St. Timothy Church Holy Name Society, Chairman of Publicity & Activities Committee. Taught CCD, Confirmation Class for 15 years, served on Parish Council, was an extraodinary Eucharistic Minister, Lector and Altar Server for Daily Mass and Funerals. He chaired and MC\' d various Church Anniversaries and retirement parties, cooked meals for many years for Parish Functions, Bazaars and Festivals. His funeral is Thursday at 9:45 a.m. from \"WOODLAWN\" Funeral Home 600 Pontiac Avenue Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Timothy Church. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
