(11/21/11) Curtis W. Mason, died November 20, 2011 at West View Nursing Home. He was the beloved husband of Florence ( Major ) Stewart- Mason.
Born in Providence a son of the late Curtis B. and Mary F. ( Walker ) Mason he had lived in Warwick before moving to Coventry in 1977. He served as a Sergeant in the U. S. Army Air Corp during WWII and received the EAME Theatre Campaign Ribbon with five Battle Stars for Normandy, Northern France, Central Europe, the Rhineland and Ardennes. He was a member of the Disabled American Veteran\'s Association.
Mr. Mason worked for 36 years for Rhode Island Hospital Trust Bank as a Bank Officer retiring in 1983.
Mr. Mason had been a member of Thomas Smith Webb Lodge # 43 F. & A. M. where he served as Treasurer and was made an Honorary Past Master, he affiliated with Washington Lodge # 5 F. & A. M. of North Kingstown which merged with Mt. Vernon Lodge #4 F. and A. M. of North Kingstown and then joined Charity Lodge #23, F. & A. M.of Kenyon where he was made an Honorary Past Master for his hard work and dedication to the lodge, especially to the Scholarship Program through his woodworking. He was a member of the Swords of Bunker Hill, Gaspee Order #99, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Providence and the Masonic Veterans Association of Rhode Island. Mr. Mason was active in woodwork, where he donated his wood art to charities for fundraisers. He was a member of the Ocean Woodturners Club, The Woodworkers Intarsia Woodworking and the American Association of Woodturners.
Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Curtis J. Mason of Coventry, Stephen W. Mason of Cocoa, FL, a daughter Marjorie Misch of Calloway, FL, step-daughters, Charlotte Cannon of West Warwick, the late Carolyn Gallant of Coventry and the late Douglas Stewart. He was grandfather of five, great grandfather of nine and step-grandfather of two. He was the brother of Helen Knee of South Kingstown and the late Henry, Earl and Richard Mason.
Funeral services will be Wednesday November 23 at 11am at the Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home and Crematory 659 East Greenwich Ave. West Warwick. Calling hours Tuesday 5-8pm with a Masonic Memorial Service by Charity Lodge #23 F. & A. M. at 7:30pm. Burial with full Military Honors will be at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
