Joseph T Werbinski - , RI

(12/06/11) Joseph T. Werbinski, 74, Ret. Battalion Chief, WFD, of West Warwick, died unexpectedly on Friday while on a cruise with his his wife in CA. He was the beloved husband of Eleonore T. (Kalter) Werbinski whom he had been married to for fifty-two years. Together, they enjoyed sailing, skiing, and international travel. Born in Providence he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Nakopinski) Werbinski. He was a graduate of Gorton High School in Warwick, had attended Bryant College and served in the US Army before joining the Warwick Fire Department, where he served for 30 years, retiring in 1993 as a Battalion Chief. He had also owned the Warwick Fence Co. Inc. for 10 years. He was an avid skier and enjoyed his position as a ski instructor at Sunday River, Maine. Joe was an active member of the Quonset Davisville Navy Yacht Club and was recognized in 2010 as Skipper of the Year. Besides his wife he is survived by his daughter, Jae T. Smith and her husband Michael of Coventry, his granddaughters, Allison Smith, Caitlin Smith, Nicole Smith, his granddog, Molly Smith, brother, Frank Werbinski of Northampton, MA and brother-in-law, Chris Kalter and wife Susi of Munich, Germany. Funeral will be Friday December 9, 2011 at 8:45am from the Carpenter -Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in SS. John & Paul Church, 341 South Main Street, Coventry at 10am. Calling hours Thursday from 4-7PM. Burial will be in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick.
