(08/23/10) Richard W. Newton, 75 of West Warwick, died Monday August 16, 2010 at Miriam Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Jo-Anne ( Gauvin )Newton
Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Walter E. and Ruth (Bolton) Newton. Mr. Newton served in the Air Force during Korean War. He graduated from Bryant College in 1974 and received a Masters degree in Counseling Education from R. I. College in 1976.
Mr. Newton served on the Pawtucket Police Department from 1959 to his retirement in 1984 as a Detective. He then worked for the State of Rhode Island DCYF as a Child Protective Investigator from 1984 to his retirement in 1996. Mr. Newton was a member of the Pawtucket Lodge #4 FOP.
Besides his wife he is survived by two step-sons, James Gity of CA and Spc. Robert Gity, USA of West Warwick, two step-grandchildren, Rumi Gity and Orion Gity. He was the brother of Thomas F. Newton of Pawtucket and the late John A. Newton, Robert E. Newton and Dorothy Newton, also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the dear friend of Mr. & Mrs. Kevin Chabot and Mr. & Mrs. Richard LaBlanca and his beloved dog Garcia.
Funeral will be from the Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, Saturday August 28 at 10 am followed by a prayer service with full Military Honors at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter at 10:30am.
