(08/25/10) John Campbell Menzies, 83, of Warwick died Monday, August 23 at the Pawtuxet Village Care & Rehabilitation Center. Born in Providence, RI he was the son of the late George O. Menzies and Marion Frances (Campbell) Menzies. He was the husband of Eleanor Peck ham (Tyler) Menzies.
He attended St. Dunstan\'s Boys\' Choir School in Providence and graduated from Classical High School in 1945. John served in the Coast Guard during WW II. Following discharge he worked for Lorgnettes and the Veterans Administration in Providence. He moved to Warwick in 1949 and in 1951 began work for the Cranston Print Works Company retiring as Plant Controller in 1989.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, John A. Menzies and his wife Linda of Saunderstown, Mark A. Menzies of East Greenwich, a daughter, Marion F. Menzies of Warwick and five grandchildren - Alexander, David and Ian Menzies of Saunderstown, Marissa and Michela Lombari of Warwick, a niece, two nephews and cousins. He was the brother of the late Audrey-Ann Menzies Scott.
John was a communicant of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Warwick since 1951, a member of its choir and handbell choir, Vestry, and was a member of the church bowling team for many years. Following his retirement he was in charge of the card games held twice a week at the church. He was also a member of the R.I. Cribbage Association. John was soloist for over 50 years in may Rhode Island churches. He also played trombone and marched with the former Kentish Guards Band of East Greenwich. John was proud of his Scottish heritage and was a long time member of the St. Andrew\'s Society of Rhode Island. Traveling in their motor home, John and Eleanor enjoyed the highland games in Maine, New Jersey, Georgia and the Carolinas.
His funeral will be held Friday at 10:00 am from THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95) with a Requiem Eucharist at 11:00 in St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 3257 Post Road, Warwick. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday 5-8 pm.
