(05/29/12) George Joseph Jarvis, Jr., 87 of East Greenwich, died Sunday May 27, 2012 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the beloved husband of Lorraine “Lee” (Tufano) Jarvis . Born in Hartford, CT, he was the son of the late George Joseph Jarvis, Sr. and the late Josephine (Dupree) Jarvis. George served in the Asiatic Pacific Area during World War II in the Marine Corps, during the battle of Iwo Jima. He had owned the Harbor Shell Fish Company. George was a member of Washington Lodge # 5 F. & A. M. of North Kingstown now affiliated with Mt. Vernon Lodge #4 F. & A. M. and the Rhode Island Shriner’s where he was a member and Past Commander of the Shiner’s Legion of Honor. Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, George Joseph Jarvis, III of East Greenwich, his daughter, Janice Mitchell and her husband Elliott of North Kingstown, three grandchildren, Ella Mitchell, Anthea Cabral and Kristi Verrill, two great great grandchildren, Ariel Cabral and Nicholas Verrill, Jr. He was the brother of Beverley Blouin, Carl Jarvis and Gerald Jarvis and the late Robert, Paul, and Sandra and brother-in-law of Richard Tufano and his wife Chris. Funeral and burial will be Private. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be sent to Shrine Charities Of Rhode Island Trust, One Rhodes Place, Cranston, RI 02905.
