(07/23/12) Warwick â Muriel M. Hanna, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 22, 2012 at Brentwood Nursing Home. She was the beloved wife of the late Harold N. Hanna.
Born in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Dr. William R. Boos and the late Jennie Mae (Nicholas) Boos. Muriel was a graduate of the New Haven School of Physical Therapy. She and Harold met at a USO dance in her hometown of Manasquan, NJ while Harold was stationed in the army nearby. They married in 1944 and eventually settled in Rhode Island in 1947.
Muriel will be remembered for her love of gardening and poetry. She was a devoted student of Ottone Riccioâs creative writing and poetry workshop and was thrilled to have had several poems published. She previously served as secretary of the Rhode Island State Poetry Society.
Both Harold and Muriel shared their time volunteering at Beneficent Congregational Church over the many years they attended. She also loved to crochet, embroider and paint and she volunteered to be a Girl Scout leader for both her daughters. One of her favorite pastimes was participating in carving the carousel horse, Unity, for the Oakland Beach Carousel Foundation.
Her love of nature and the ocean was shared by her entire family. Many good times were spent together at beaches from Rhode Island to Florida where adding to her collections of shells, stones and sea glass was part of the fun for all ages in the family.
Muriel is survived by her four children: Linda C. Frank, N. John Hanna and his wife Brenda, Nicole Sundlun and her husband Ross and Mark T. Hanna; her sister Doris Wood of Manasquan, NJ; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 with her memorial service immediately following at the Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Burial will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
