(09/11/12) Warwick – Helen G. Donnelly-Petterson, 87, of Orleans Court, died Monday, September 10, 2012 at Kent Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Capt. George T. Donnelly, Sr. and the late Laurence K. “Larry” Petterson. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late James F. and Ada M. (Wilding) Jackson, she served in the WAVES during World War II. She was a voracious reader, an avid bridge player, an antique dealer and loved to dance. In her younger years she taught preschool. She is fondly remembered as a generous and positive person who was always interested in others and who loved a good laugh. She leaves her four children: Maureen D. Lee and her husband John of Columbia, SC; Nancy Donnelly of North Kingstown; Patricia A. Hughes and her husband Patrick of North Kingstown and George T. Donnelly, Jr. and his partner Susan Shea of Narragansett; her three grandsons: Patrick Hughes, Thomas and Benjamin Donnelly, and her granddaughter Allison Hughes. She was the twin sister of the late Dorothy M. Owen. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. A private burial service, with military honors, will take place in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, Johnston. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial mass, which will be celebrated on Friday, September 14th at 11:00 AM at Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Road, Kingston. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial gifts be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114. Information and condolences at carpenterjenks.com.
