(02/21/13) Virginia S. Briggs, 90, of Coventry, RI passed away on February 18, 2013 at the Coventry Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Coventry, RI.
She was born in East Greenwich, RI on January 13, 1923, the daughter of the late John R. and Leta M. (Devoe) Briggs.
Virginia was a supply clerk for 34 years at the Sea Bee Base in Davisville, Quonset Point, North Kingstown, RI until she retired. She belonged to the RI State Grange, Kent County Pomona Grange, and the Rocky Hill Grange #27. She was also a member of the Retired Federal Employees Chapter 958. She was an active member of the Lakewood Baptist Church in Warwick and the Whatsoever Guild at the church. She also sang in the Lakewood Women\'s Ensemble.
She is survived by her brother; Norman Briggs of West Greenwich, and her sisters; Beverly M. Lukowicz of East Greenwich and Muriel Sprague of Hemet, California and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers; Alan and William Briggs and her sisters; Frances Johnson and Carolyn Boisclair.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 25, 2013 at 11:00 am from the Gorton-Menard Funeral Home and Crematory, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. Calling hours will be held 1 hour prior - from 10:00- 11:00 am. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in East Greenwich, RI.
