(03/12/13) Rimmige E. Petrozzi, 87, of West Warwick passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving children. He was the husband of the late Esther (Souza) Petrozzi. A lifelong resident of West Warwick, he was a son of the late Pasquale and Giuseppina (Ruzzo) Petrozzi.
Mr. Petrozzi was the Head of Maintenance for the Phenix Mill for 40 years and worked in maintenance for Kent Hospital for 10 years until his retirement. Following his retirement, he worked part time at Midville Country Club until the age of 80. He was also a well known concrete mason.
A WW II veteran of The United States Army, he served in Germany and France with the 63rd Infantry Blood and Fire. He was a life member of AmVets, the Portuguese-American Sports Club, American Legion Post #2 and the 63rd Division Association. In his younger days, Rimmige was an accomplished Baseball and Basketball player. He was well known for his exceptional cooking and was the greatest New York Yankee fan who ever lived.
He was the beloved father of Paul R. Petrozzi and his wife Kellie of Hope, Joan A. Petrozzi and her companion George Rainha of Warwick and Ann Marie Petrozzi and her husband Michael Masciarelli of West Warwick. Loving grandfather of Nicole Tate and Mathew Petrozzi. Cherished great grandfather of Madison. Caring brother of Pete Petrozzi of Coventry, Pauline Arruda of East Providence and the late Angie Marchetti, Olympia DiCarlo, Santina Pagliarini, Gloria O\'Malley, Mary Petrozzi and Joseph Uccello. Longtime friend of Peg O\'Brien
His funeral will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013 at 8:45 am from THE PRATA-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Anthony\'s Church, Maple Avenue, West Warwick. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday 4-8 pm.
