(01/06/14) CUMBERLAND â Mary (Gomes) Volpe, 85, of Mendon Road, died Wednesday, January 1, at the Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island, Pawtucket. She was the wife of Edward Volpe. Mr. & Mrs. Volpe were married for sixty-six years.
Born in Pawtucket, a daughter of the late Jose and Amelia (Correira) Chita-Gomes, she had lived in Pawtucket for many years, before moving to Cumberland six years ago.
Mrs. Volpe was a salesperson for the former Coats Field Shopperâs World, and later a floor supervisor at Ann & Hope, where she was a member of its Sunshine Club, before retiring twenty years ago. She was a communicant of Saint Edward Church, Pawtucket, and a member of its Church Guild.
Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Dianne Dykas; two sons, Edward Volpe, Jr. and Michael Volpe, all of Lincoln; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Luciano Gomas and John Gomes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Tuesday, January 7, at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Edward Church, 396 Weeden Street, Pawtucket. Burial will follow in Mount Saint Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Monday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at BELLOWS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 160 River Road, Lincoln.
