(03/10/14) East Greenwich - Maria R. (Galligan) Gil, 56, passed away after a very brief illness on Friday, March 7, 2014 at Kent Hospital in Warwick. She was the loving wife of the late George G. Gil. Born in Providence she was a daughter of the late James V. and Rose M. (Calicchia) Galligan.
Maria was President of Chase Machine & Engineering where her commitment to her Chase family was unwavering. She was also co-founder of Professional Records Inc. and of ER Card LLC.
Maria spent many years volunteering her time to the Saint Elizabeth Community serving on the board since 2002 and most recently serving as Board Chair 2010-2013. She sat on the Rhode Island Health Services Council, was a board member for The Kent Center, was a member of the WPO (Women Presidentsâ Organization) and participated in various manufacturing and business organizations.
She loved to play golf and was a member of the Potowomut Golf Club where she made many lifelong friendships.
Maria especially loved spending time with her nieces and grandchildren. She always found the time in her busy schedule to attend a play, concert or even invite everyone over for cookouts at the pool. Moments our family will never forget.
Her surviving family includes her brother Joseph P. Galligan of West Warwick; her step-son Guy Gil & his wife Linda of Coventry; her step-daughter Monica Austin & her husband David of Scituate; her two nieces Jacque & Veronica Galligan of Warwick; her four granddaughters Lauren, Morgan, Camryn & Sydney; her mother-in-law Bertha (Chatelle) Gil of Coventry and, her in-laws: Janice Gil and Richard Deery of Coventry and Deborah Galligan of Warwick. She was the sister of the late Jamie Maria Galligan and the sister-in-law of the late Jacqueline Houle.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, March 14 at 8:45 AM from Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Bernardâs Church, 275 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown at 10:00 AM. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 â 8:00 PM.
