(03/20/14) Phyllis L. (Carlson) Hevenor, 88, formerly of East Greenwich, RI, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love in Warwick on Tuesday, March 18, 2014. Born in East Milton, Massachusetts, Mrs. Hevenor is preceded in death by husband G. Bruce Hevenor; her parents, the late Elmer Carlson and Marion (Damon) Carlson; and a grandson, David B. Jeffrey. She is survived by her seven children, Kristina Giffin (William) of Aiken, SC; Gretchen Webster of Gloucester, MA; Michael Hevenor (Rhonda) of Smithfield, RI; Mark Hevenor of North Kingstown, RI; Matthew Hevenor of North Kingstown, RI; Rebecca Renaud (Mark) of Coventry, RI; Laurie Dickinson (Patrick) of Geneva, IL; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hevenor was a 1944 graduate of Nasson College where she earned a degree in Home Economics. She also held a graduate degree in Adult Education from the University of Rhode Island. She worked for the state of Rhode Island as a University Extension Agent, and was later a realtor with Defelice Realtors and Coldwell Banker. She taught real estate at Providence College in the Continuing Education Department. Mrs. Hevenor was a two-time, 35 year breast cancer survivor, and her doctor referred to her as \"a miracle.\" Mrs. Hevenor was a loving mother and homemaker, raising seven children while her husband served in the US Army. Nothing was more important to her than her children, and she enjoyed talking about the many places they had lived and visited over the years, and marveling over the fact that her seven children had been born in five different states and two countries. She was a talented knitter, loved the ocean, and enjoyed travel, in particular, spending time at her vacation home on the lake in Oakland, Maine, where she had been going since the summer she was born. One of her happiest accomplishments was sky-diving for her 78th birthday with her grandson, and she would happily share the photo with all who came to visit. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2014 from 2:00-4:00 pm at THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (exit 12A on I-95). The funeral service will be at Blue Hill Cemetery on Monday, March 24, 2014 at 11:00 am, relatives and friends may gather at the cemetery office, 700 West Street, Braintree, Massachusetts. Donations in Mrs. Hevenor\'s memory may be made to The American Cancer Society, the National Reyes Syndrome Foundation in Byron, Ohio or Gentiva Hospice of RI.
