(01/08/15) Coventry - Donald R. Cronin, 77, died suddenly on Wednesday, January 7, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Lorraine D. (LaPorte) Cronin to whom he was married 50 years.
Born in Providence, a son of the late John J. and Mary M. (Gilbride) Cronin, he was a United States Army veteran. For over twenty years he worked as a salesman for International Supply of Cranston.
Don loved sports. He was an avid PC Friar Basketball fan and a former coach for the Coventry Basketball Association and for the Central Coventry Little League. Don will be remembered by friends as a loving and warm person.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Donald Cronin of Coventry, David Cronin & his wife Heather of Dover, NH and Linda Gil & her husband Guy of Coventry; one sister-in-law Carole Cronin of Scituate. He was the loving âPoppaâ of Joel, Henry, Lauren & Morgan. He was predeceased by one son: William Patrick Cronin; one sister: Eileen D. Alves-McGovern and two brothers: John & Robert Cronin.
Funeral Monday at 8:45 AM from Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Mass of Christian burial at SS. John & Paul Church, South Main Street, Coventry at 10. Calling hours Sunday 2-5 PM. Burial, with military honors, in the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
