(01/29/15) FITTA, Gerald Joseph, 70, of West Warwick, died on Monday, January 26, 2015, at home.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Joseph R. and Jennie (Ferreira) Fitta.
He was a graduate of East Providence High School, Dean Junior College, and the University of Rhode Island with a degree in physical education. After serving in the 2nd Field Forces in the US Army in Vietnam, he taught at Seekonk High School, then worked many years in retail, retiring from Stop and Shop in 2013. He was a member of the Primer-Cordeiro Post 5538 V.F. W. of East Providence, the American Legion Post 2 of West Warwick, AARP Chapter 2210 of West Warwick, the Pawtuxet Valley Preservation and Historical Society and the East Greenwich Senior Center.
He was the brother of the late Rosemarie Taraborelli and is survived by his companion, Suzanne Bertrand, a niece, a nephew and two great nieces.
His funeral will be held Monday, February 2, 2015 at 8:30 am from the HENAULT â GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 5 Eddy St., West Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am in St. John and James Church, 20 Washington Street, West Warwick. Interment will follow with military honors in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
