(09/15/15) Elsie âBettyâ E. Aker, 84, of Torch Lane, Coventry, RI, peacefully entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Monday, September 14, 2015 at Alpine Nursing Home, West Warwick, RI. Born in Providence, RI, she was the wife of the late Kenneth W. Aker and the daughter of the late Joseph and Elsie C. (Johnson) Lombardo.
Elsie was a school teacher for the Warwick, RI School System for fourteen years before retiring in 1979. She was a graduate of Rhode Island College, class of 1955, and a member of the Rhode Island Teachers Association, Phi Theta Kappa. She also received a degree in Social Services in Elderly Affairs from Community College of Rhode Island.
Elsie is survived by a son; John J. Osborn and his wife Helen, of Santa Rosa, CA and a step son Kenneth W. Aker and his wife Paula, of Coventry, RI, a sister; Margarita âRitaâ C. Hindle and her husband Robert, of Westerly, RI, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two daughters; Linda J. Fuller and Elizabeth A. Willis.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 9:00 am in the Gorton-Menard Funeral Home and Crematory, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI. A calling hour will be held prior from 8:00 to 9:00 am. Burial will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter, RI.
