Robert F. Chateauneuf, 74, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2015 at Kent Hospital in Warwick, RI. Married for 30 years, he was the husband of Karen E. (Ashworth) Chateauneuf of Warwick, RI. He was born in Methuen, MA to the late Frank E. and Doria A. (Dumont) Chateauneuf.
Robert joined the United States Navy in 1960 where he served four years of duty as a radioman on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Essex CV-9. After proudly serving his country, he went on to college and started his career as a nurse. During his career he had worked in the emergency room setting of Miriam and St. Joseph Hospitals and for the Department of Corrections, ACI facility.
His duties as a radioman lead him to small hobbies of amateur radio and shortwave radio and he had a fascination for boats and boating. He and his wife would annually travel to Maine together where many memories were made searching for lighthouses along the way. In essence Robert was an easy going man who lived a fairly simple life. His somewhat reclusiveness was just part of his personality in social settings; however he was very knowledgeable and enjoyed one-on-one conversations in various topics. He had three life-long friends from junior high school with whom he spent many happy hours.
Besides his wife Karen, he is survived by his daughter Melisa A. Whispell and her husband Richard of Saugerties, NY; a sister Carol Parmentier of Seekonk, MA and his nieces and nephews.
Robertâs calling hours will take place at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, RI on Thursday, September 17 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
Family and friends may gather at the entrance of the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter, RI on Friday, September 18, for 9:45 AM immediately followed by a 10:00 AM committal service with military honors.
Should friends desire, donations in his memory may be made to either: Simply Smiles, 1771 Post Road, Westport, CT 06880 (www.simplysmiles.org) or to Anchor Recovery Community Center (c/o TPC), 528 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 (www.anchorrecovery.org).
