Virginia A (Lesperance) Akulonis - , RI

(09/17/15) Akulonis, Virgina \"Nina” (Lesperance), 86, formally of Morris, NY and St. Augustine, Florida, passed away September 17, 2015, at West View Health Center, West Warwick, RI. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, Nina was the daughter of Joseph “Ted” I. Lesperance and Helena (Yodis) Lesperance. She graduated valedictorian in 1947 from St. Mary’s High School, Elizabeth, NJ. Nina wed Albert W. Akulonis on September 11, 1948. For four years Nina worked as a secretary before starting their family. Al’s work took the family to New Jersey and Pennsylvania and finally to upstate New York. When all five of their children were in school, Nina went back to work as a legal secretary for Richard Johnson, Esq. in his Morris office. Nina and Al retired to St. Augustine, Fl. where they had many happy years. Nina was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, golf, entertaining, playing Bridge and an occasional slot machine. Nina and Al traveled extensively, including a three month cruise around the world to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. She was a communicant of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Morris, NY and St. Anastasia Catholic Church, St. Augustine, Fl. Nina was predeceased by her parents and brothers Theodore and Richard Lesperance. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 67 years, Albert; daughters Karin (John) Ripka of Manlius, NY; Renee A. Hanks (Craig Bramley), Hudson Falls, NY; Marie A. Lepre (Eric Desvaux), West Warwick, RI; sons Alan Akulonis, Carson City, NV; Matthew (Kathy) Akulonis, Wrentham,MA; granddaughters Megan Lepre, Catherine Akulonis, Sarah Akulonis; her precious great granddaughter Rylee Pinheiro; sisters-in-law Geraldine Lesperance and Mary Lesperance and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the loving and compassionate staff of West View Health Care Facility and Gentiva Hospice for the extraordinary care Mom received these past three years. You truly are God’s angels. Calling hours will be held at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 east Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick on Monday, September 21, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM followed with a Catholic Prayer Service at 12:00 PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to West View Nursing Center (Activities Fund), 239 Legris Avenue, West Warwick, RI 02893 or to Gentiva Hospice, 2374 Post Road Suite 206, Warwick, RI 02886.
