(10/01/15) CORRENTE, Veronica Jane (Robbins), wife of the late Robert F. Corrente, M.D., of East Greenwich and Warwick passed away on Monday, September 28, 2015. She was 83.
Jane was born in 1932, daughter of Walter and Veronica (Ihnat) Robbins, and grew up in the Allegheny foothills in Coupon, Pennsylvania. She skipped two grades in elementary school and graduated from Mount Aloysius Junior College at age 18. She pursued her training in laboratory microbiology in Washington, D.C., where she roomed with her best friend Joan who later married her only brother, Walter \\\"Robbie\\\" Robbins, Major, USAF. It was there that she met her future husband, an intern at Providence Hospital.
Jane and Bob raised a family of four, and many German Shepherds together. After her husband\\\'s untimely death, Jane obtained her Master\\\'s Degree in Microbiology from Southeastern Massachusetts University and took a position in the laboratory at Kent County Memorial Hospital. She became a Master Gardener and shared her magnificent garden\\\'s bounty with many friends and loved ones. She also discovered Himalayan and Persian cats and had four as her best companions during those years, while also enjoying her book group, along with any activity at all with her beloved grandchildren.
After a stroke in 2011, Jane moved to Atria Harborhill in East Greenwich, only a mile from her home, and continued a very happy and active life there with both her new friends and dear lifetime friends. Earlier this year, she moved to Kent Regency Nursing Home where she received the additional support she needed from the exceptionally kind and caring staff there.
She was predeceased by her husband Robert (1978) and her daughter Linda (1999). Despite these profound losses, Janeâs generous spirit never faltered, and her gift for friendship and delight in laughter were constant.
She will be kept close in the hearts of her son, Robert (Hollie Edwardo) in Rhode Island, her two daughters, Martha (Michael Akritas) in Pennsylvania and Susan (Robert Clarke) in Maine, her four grandchildren Simon, Matthew, Michaela and Celia, and her very special nieces and nephews.
