Katharine S (Makepeace) Turner - , RI

(01/05/11) Turner, Katharine S. (Makepeace), 83, of Warwick Neck died Tuesday morning at her home. She was predeceased by her first husband, Arthur H. Bradford, Jr. and her second husband LeBaron Turner, Jr. She was born may 1, 1927 to Colin M. and Maria F. (Nightingale) Makepeace. Katherine graduated from the Lincoln School in 1945 and Mary Baldwin College in 1949. Mrs. Turner was a member of the Warwick Country Club, the RI Philatelic Society, the Warwick Historical society, the Society of Mayflower Descendants and W2. she was a lifetime member of the Appalachian Club. Katharine was a past president of the Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA Women’s Club. Mrs. Turner was a member of the Central Congregational Church where she taught Sunday School for many years as well as serving as a deaconess. Katharine was very generous and supported many charitable foundations with her time and donations including Hamilton House in Providence. She was a member of the Providence Female Charitable Society and the St. Mary’s Guild in Warwick. Katharine’s interests included extensive traveling around the world, swimming, hiking, canoeing, tennis, skiing, and bridge. She enjoyed playing Scrabble with her children and grandchildren—they won very rarely. She was a fervent genealogical researcher of her Mayflower ancestors. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service in the Central Congregational Church, 296 Angell Street Providence, RI on Saturday at 11 AM. Burial will be private.
