(08/24/11) BARRETT, Joseph Thomas, M.D., 87, of Chatham Circle, Warwick. On August 23, Dr. Barrett passed as he had lived, peacefully and surrounded by his loving family. Born January 12, 1924 in West Warwick, RI, a son of the late John J. and Eva (Bouchard) Barrett, he was the devoted husband of the late Eugenie M. âJeanâ (Neville) Barrett for 60 years. Joe graduated from LaSalle Academy and Providence College, where he played saxophone in the band. He then served his country honorably aboard the Navy ship LST929 during World War II. Later, he attended Albany Medical School and established a pediatric practice on West Shore Road in Warwick, where he was a caring physician to thousands of children. He was the physician for the Warwick School Department for over 30 years, and served on the staff of Lying In and Kent County Hospitals. Throughout his 60 years in Warwick, Joe loved his home in Buttonwoods and enjoyed golf at Warwick Country Club. He was a communicant of St. Francis Church, a loving husband, and his greatest joy was spending time with his family. He is survived by his 7 children and their spouses; Susan MacDonald and her husband Kenneth, Kathleen Almon and her husband William, Joseph Barrett Jr., Dr. Richard Barrett and his wife Serron, Sheila McGauvran and her husband Michael, Nancy Enos and her husband Michael, and Mark Barrett and his wife Melissa, and he was \"Papa\" to 21 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He was the brother of Madeleine Goldener, Margaret Cimini, and Robert Barrett and the late John and Paul Barrett. His funeral will begin on Friday, at 8:30 am from the Thomas &Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Avenue, Warwick, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 597 Jefferson Blvd, Warwick, at 10 am. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich. Relatives and friends are invited to visit Thursday, 3 -7 pm.
