(09/04/11) Henry A. âHankâ Johnson, Sr., 71, of Post Road died Saturday at Kent Hospital. He was the former husband of Joan L. (Marino) Johnson of Warwick.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Joseph L. and Loretto T. (Gardner) Johnson, he had lived in Warwick for the past 43 years. Mr. Johnson was the chief auditor for the Rhode Island Board of Elections for 22 years before retiring in 2009 and had served as the administrative assistant for former Warwick Mayor Joseph W. Walsh. An Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, Mr. Johnson was active in the community serving as treasurer of the St. Michaelâs Annual Golf Tournament and coaching in the Continental Little League for over 30 years. He was also the former owner of Dorseyâs Tavern.
Besides his wife, he leaves 2 sons, Henry A. âHankâ Johnson, Jr. and his wife Judy of Connecticut and Kevin J. Johnson of Warwick; 1 sister, Jane A. Musco of Burke, VA; 2 brothers, Loring Johnson of Providence and James Johnson of Newport. He was brother of the late Marie Mertens, William Johnson and Joseph Johnson.
His funeral will be Wednesday at 9 AM from the Frank P. Trainor & Sons Funeral Home, 982 Warwick Avenue, Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Michael Church, 239 Oxford Street, Providence at 10 AM. Calling Hours Tuesday 4-8 PM.
