George G Gil - , RI

(12/18/11) Gil, George G., 72, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was the loving husband of Maria Gil of East Greenwich. Born in Providence, he was the son of Bertha (Chatelle) of Coventry and the late Anthony Gil. Mr. Gil was President of Chase Machine & Engineering. He was a member of Potowomut Golf Club, West Warwick Elks, and various manufacturing and business trade organizations. George spent many years volunteering his time to the Saint Elizabeth Community, Big Brothers of RI, Meals On Wheels and as a soft-ball coach, manager and sponsor. He was a classic car enthusiast and took pride in restoring his ’53 Chevy and tinkering with his cars with his best buddy Frank. Besides his wife and mother, he was the loving father of Guy and Linda Gil of Coventry and Monica and David Austin of Scituate. George was passionate about his family and especially loved time with the “girls”- granddaughters Camryn, Lauren, Sydney and Morgan and nieces Jacque and Veronica. He was the brother of Jacqueline Houle of Coventry and Janice Gil of Coventry. He was equally passionate about the company that he built, Chase Machine & Engineering. He started his career at Chase when he was 16 years old and bought the company in 1984. George considered his employees family and was a father figure to many of them. George always said “I am a happy man, I have a wonderful life” and that is a source of comfort to his family. Funeral from Carpenter- Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick on Thursday, December 22 at 9:15 AM followed by A Mass of Christian Burial, in St. Bernard Church, 275 Tower Hill Rd., North Kingstown. A private burial will be at later date. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-8 PM.
