(04/17/12) William A. Coppa, Sr., 77, of West Warwick passed away peacefully Monday at home. He was the beloved husband of Anna (Padula) Coppa for 53 years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late John and Rose (Iacona) Coppa.
Mr. Coppa was a Regional Manager for Cumberland Farms until his retirement. He was a Korean War Veteran of The United States Army and was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in West Warwick. Mr. Coppa was the author of \"Ischia to 155 Ridge Street,\" a story about The Coppa Family from their ancestry to the present.
He was the loving father of Maria R. Walmsley and her husband Richard of Warren, John D. Coppa of West Warwick and the late William A. Coppa, Jr. Cherished Papa of Amanda and Andrew Walmsley. Caring brother of Regina Petrangelo of Warwick, Rose Susi of Johnston, Mary Coletta of Johnston and the late Vincent, John, Vito, Salvatore and Frank Coppa and Laura Carnevale.
His funeral will be held Friday at 8:45 am from THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95) with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Sacred Heart Church, 820 Providence Street, West Warwick. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, West Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday 4-7 pm.
