(12/04/12) Mildred Caroline (Bood) McCord, 96, passed away Monday, December 3, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Home of East Greenwich. Mildred was born on March 3, 1916 in Providence, a daughter of the late Carl A. and Hulda C. (Johnson) Bood. She was the wife of the late Clinton F. McCord, the sister of the late Earle C. Bood and Ethel M. Bood.
Mildred was a 1939 graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, where she majored in Fashion Design and Illustration. She was employed at The Outlet Company in Providence as a Fashion Illustrator in the advertising department for several years.
Her passion for antiques and folk art inspired her to create many works in the style of Early American decorative art, Chinoiserie design and antique furniture decoration, including pieces in oil-on-canvas, theorem painting, hand-cut stenciling on wood and metal, gold and bronze leaf and reverse glass painting. She taught Early American Decoration classes in her Warwick studio for more than 50 years.
Mildred was a member of the First Lutheran Church in East Greenwich and previously of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Providence. She lived in Warwick for more than 45 years.
She is survived by her sister Evelyn V. (Bood) Lofgren of Warwick, two nieces, Nancy M. Swanson and Janet L. Lofgren, and two nephews, James W. Lofgren, Jr. and Russell C. Bood. She also leaves several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Her Funeral Service will be held Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 10:00 am in The First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Division Street, East Greenwich. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation at the church Thursday from 9:30 to 10:00 am.
