(09/11/14) Antonio Ventura, 99, formerly of West Warwick passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2014 in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He was the husband of the late Lucy C. (Centracchio) Ventura for 77 years. Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, he was a son of the late Joseph and Jacinta (Horta) Ventura.
Mr. Ventura was a Stationary Engineer for Saybrook Mfg. Co. until his retirement.
He was the beloved father of Carol Calicchia of Aurora, CO, Jackie Bearse and her husband Richard of Naples, FL, Anthony J. Ventura and his wife Linda of Rock Hill, SC, Robert E. Ventura and his wife Trish of East Greenwich and the late Edward Ventura, Rita Imondi and Shirley M. Ventura. Loving grandfather of eleven and great grandfather of eleven.

(09/11/14) Chichester, NH â Robert W. Boudreau, 84, of Dover Road, Chichester, NH and formerly of Cumberland, died Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at home. He was the husband of the late Patricia A. (Arnold) Boudreau.
Born in Cumberland, a son of the late Henry and Melvina (Martel) Boudreau, he had lived in Quaker Hill, CT before moving to Chichester, NH 29 years ago.
Mr. Boudreau was a 26-year veteran of the United States Air Force retiring as a TSgt in July 1974. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After his retirement from the Air Force, he was a pipefitter for 21 years at Electric Boat, Groton, CT and Process Engineering in Plaistow, NH.
He is survived by one daughter, Robin S. Brown of New London, CT; three sons, Robert W. Boudreau, Jr. of Waterford, CT, Rodney Boudreau of Red Bluff, CA and Richard Boudreau of Rochester, NH; one brother, Joseph Martel of Cumberland; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joan Chaloux and Henry Boudreau.
His funeral service will be held MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 15 at 10 A.M. at BELLOWS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Burial, with military honors, will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.

Normand "Mickey" G Vadnais - , RI
(09/12/14) Normand G. âMickeyâ Vadnais, 71, of Lane B, Coventry, RI, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Kent Regency, Warwick, RI. Born in West Warwick, RI, he was the husband of Carol A. (Rekas) Vadnais. They were married for forty-eight years. He was the son of the late George and Anita (LaPlume) Vadnais.
Normand was a machinist for Sandberg Enterprises for thirty years until retiring.
He was a US Marine Corp Veteran of the Vietnam War. Mickey was a Member of the American Legion and served in may capacities; he was the Post 81 Adjutant for many years, 2007-08 Department of RI Commander, 2009-11 Alternate National Executive Committeeman, 2011-13 National Executive Committeeman and 2011 to present he served as Department of RI Finance Officer.
Mickey was also a long time active member of PNA Lodge 1001 and was the former president and current secretary. For many years he was also the head chef of the Lodge. He loved sports and attended and played in the PNA National softball, bowling and golf tournaments. In recent years he served as PNA District 1 Commissioner which covered CT and RI. He enjoyed coaching youth hockey and softball. He was an avid and very good golf player and basketball player.
Besides his wife he is survived by two children; Stephen Vadnais and his wife Barbara and Kristin L. Gingerella and her husband Frank, two sisters; Dorothy Silva-Cioe and her husband Edward and Alice Frennette and her husband Roger, four grandchildren; Cassidy, Alex, Bradley and Hunter and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 9:00 am from the Gorton-Menard Funeral Home and Crematory, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI with a Memorial Mass at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Czenstochowa Church, 445 Washington Street, Coventry, RI.

(09/15/14) Cumberland â Gordon V. Carr, 78, of Mendon Road died Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, North Providence. He was the beloved husband of Claudia A. (Cenci) Carr. He was a lineal descendent of Colonial Governors Caleb Carr and Joseph Jenks.
Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Alfred B. and Loretta C. (McChrystal) Carr, he had lived in Lincoln for most of his life before moving to Cumberland 10 years ago.
Mr. Carr was a business education teacher at North Providence High School for 31 years retiring in 1989. He also taught at Johnson & Wales University (Veterans Program) and Sawyer Business School (Accounting and Tax Practices). He received his B.S. Degree in Business Education from Bryant College in 1958 and his Masterâs Degree in Education from Boston University in 1961.
He served in the Rhode Island National Guard and was a member of the American Philatelic Association. A 32nd degree Mason, he was a member of Mount Moriah Lodge #8, F. & A.M., Lincoln. He was the former auditor of Sayles Memorial Church and the Saylesville Fire District, both of Lincoln.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his loving son, Benjamin Caleb Carr (Alexandra) of Brooklyn, NY.
Always a teacher, Gordonâs body was donated to Brown University Medical School for research.

She was the wife of the late Edward G. Dean, Sr. Born in West Warwick, a daughter of the late Peter and Magdalena (Hajec) Pankowicz. She was a lifelong resident of West Warwick.
Mrs. Dean was employed in the laundry department at Kent Hospital for ten years before retiring in 1986. She was a communicant of St. Mary Church and a member of the Polish Falcons, nest 172.
She is survived by four daughters, Carol Carulo, Patricia Dean, Janice Peixinho and Cathie Dean Cutlip; three sons, Bruce Dean, Peter Dean and Steven Dean; a sister, Julia Kiselica; seventeen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Edward G. Dean, Jr., Jeffrey Dean, Robert Dean and Christopher Dean.

(09/20/14) Thomas E. Scialla, 62, of Warwick, died Thursday, September 18, 2014, at the Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, in the presence of his loving family.
Born in Providence, he was the beloved son of the late Dominic and Evelyn G. (Salvatore) Scialla.
Mr. Scialla was vice president produce of Belmont Fruit Co. and was formerly employed as a produce buyer at Tourtellot & Co.
He was an active and devoted communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Warwick and supporter of many parish activities.
An alumnus of Pilgrim High School, St. Thomas More Prep School and URI where he was a member of the Phi Mu Delta Fraternity; Tom was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast. He achieved All State Honors in wrestling and Class A football honors while at Pilgrim High School, and holds the High School record for the fastest pin in wrestling.
Tom was the treasured brother of Geraldine S. Mendes of East Greenwich, Christine C. Penza of North Kingstown and Donald G. Scialla of North Conway, NH, and cherished uncle of Michael and David Mendes, Claudia and Melissa Penza, and Dominic, Anthony, and Derek Scialla.
He was loved by his many friends.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday ,September 23, 2014 at 10:00am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 596 Jefferson Blvd., Warwick.

Florence May (Mennie) Spoerer - , RI
(09/24/14) Cumberland â Florence May (Mennie) Spoerer, 96, of Cumberland died on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Henry G. Spoerer who passed away in 2006. They were married sixty-four years.
The oldest daughter of the late William M. and Florence (Whetstone) Mennie, she lived in Cumberland for 51 years, previously residing in Pawtucket. She was a 1938 graduate of Pawtucket High School and Tabbutt-Hubbard Business School. In her early career, she worked at General Cable. After taking time off to raise her family, she returned to work at Ward Foods until her retirement.
Florence was a Past Worthy Advisor, as well as, a Past Mother Advisor of Pawtucket Assembly No. 3, International Order of Rainbow for Girls. She was the Past Esteemed Praetor of Pawtucket Rainbow Alumnae and a member of Grand Rainbow Alumnae of Rhode Island. She was a 75-year member of Queen Esther Chapter No. 2, Order of the Eastern Star in Pawtucket. She was a recipient of the Grand Cross of Color.
Florence was a 78-year member of Smithfield Avenue Congregational Church in Pawtucket where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Girls Service Club. She was a member of the Cumberland Garden Club where she served as the Sunshine chair for several years and has since been made an honorary member. She supported her girls serving as a Campfire Leader and Girl Scout Leader.
Florence enjoyed accompanying Henry on his travels connected with his Masonic associations. The highlight was when Henry received the 33rd and last degree of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.
Florence is survived by two daughters, Dr. Janet Arndt and her husband, Dr. Kenneth Arndt of New Hampshire and Dr. Priscilla Nelson and her husband, the Rev. Eric Nelson of Massachusetts; her grandchildren, Dr. Elissa Rader and her husband, Matthew of Connecticut, Emily DeCastro and her husband, Flavio of Massachusetts. Erica Arndt of Massachusetts, Dr. Ethan Arndt and his wife, Joice of Anchorage, Alaska, and Samuel Nelson and Abigail Nelson, both of Massachusetts; three great grandchildren, Jacoby, Lucas and Kaia DeCastro; and several nieces and nephews. Florence was the sister of the late Morrison Mennie, Doris Adams and Marion Adams.

(09/24/14) Coventry- Houston, Eric R., 89, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Kent Hospital in Warwick. Married 67 years, he was the husband of Doris E. (Leblanc) Houston of Coventry.
Mr. Houston worked for Blackstone Valley Electric and National Grid as a plant operator for almost 40 years before retiring. He was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran who served in the Pacific Theater from 1942-1946. His ship, the USS Boise, was responsible for sinking more ships in a single battle than any other ship in Navy history. It was also the flagship for General Douglas MacArthur, whom Eric knew personally. Later, he enlisted in the reserves for six years and was then re-instated in the Korean War.
Besides his wife he is survived by five children: Carol Roy (Gil), Dennis Houston (Karen), Elaine Eccleston, Nancy Houston and Gary Houston (Lianne); several Grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a brother Joseph Houston; two brother-in-laws and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sister Margaret Smith, RSM - , RI
(09/25/14) SMITH, Sister Margaret, 93, formerly Sister Mary Ambrose, a Sister of Mercy and former elementary school teacher, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Mount St. Rita Health Centre, Cumberland.
Born in Swampscott, MA, she was the daughter of the late Francis E. and Margaret (Dorgan) Smith. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1941 and made final vows in 1947.
Early in her religious life, Sister studied at Catholic Teachers College in Providence where she received a B.A. in Education. She taught in elementary grades in Rhode Island and Massachusetts and in the early to mid-80âs, Sister served as Catholic Chaplain and provided pastoral care at the Rhode Island Medical Center in Cranston as well as in Chicago at Mercy Hospital. Sister Margaret ministered in New Bedford at the Regina Pacis Center, and in the New Bedford public schools in the ESL Program.
In her retirement, Sister resided at Franklin Court in Bristol and, for the past few years, at Mount St. Rita Health Centre in Cumberland.
In addition to her religious community, the Sisters of Mercy, she is survived by eleven nieces and nephews and their children. She was the sister of the late Frank Smith, Thomas Smith and Alice Dunn.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 29, 2014 at 11:00 am in Mount St. Rita Chapel, Cumberland. Visitation will be on Monday from 9:30 to 10:50 in the Warde Room of Mount St. Rita Health Centre with a Mercy Prayer Service at 10:20 am. (09/26/14) George E. Antaya, 66, of West Warwick, died Friday, September 26th at home. He was the husband of Cheryl-Ann (Yattaw) Antaya.
George was born in Providence, a son of the late Joseph and Marion (Burrows) Antaya. Mr. Antaya, was a West Warwick resident for over 23 years coming from East Providence.
He enjoyed spending time with his twin grandchildren. He was a gun enthusiast and a member of the N.R.A. He had also collected Harley Davidson Motorcycles.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons Bryan Antaya of West Warwick, Kevin Antaya of Providence, and Michael Antaya Sr. of Pawtucket, a brother Joseph Antaya of West Warwick. He was the grandfather of Bryce Perry, Faith Perry, Desiree Antaya, Kendra Antaya, Danny Antaya, Michael Antaya, also survived by many great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Charles Reis.

(09/25/14) West Warwick- Leveille, Audrey E. (Johnson), 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at West View Health Care Center in West Warwick. She was the wife of the late Roger C. Leveille. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late William T. and Edith (Horracks) Johnson, Sr.
Audrey was a graduate from Classical High School, class of 1943, a long distance telephone operator for many years and later worked as a clerk for Flemings Department Store in Richmond, RI.
She is survived by three children: Gerald J. Gorman and wife Barbara of West Warwick, Steven C. Leveille and wife Patricia of Aiken, SC, Charlene A. Hoffacker and husband James of Livingston, TX ; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren and a sister Dolores Falaguerra of Riverside. She is predeceased by her first husband, Andrew V. Gorman, who died in WWII, a daughter Linda E. Leveille and two siblings, Beverly Moan and William Johnson Jr.
A Prayer Service will be held at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick on Tuesday, September 30 at 10 AM followed with interment in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Calling hours will be Monday from 5-7 PM. Remembrances may be shared at carpenterjenks.com.

Marguerite "Rita" K (Milne) Horton - , RI
(09/27/14) Marguerite K. âRitaâ (Milne) Horton, 78, of West Greenwich, formerly of Essex Village, North Kingstown for 28 years, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014 at home. She was the wife of the late Rayburn Horton. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late James P. and Mary (Wright) Milne.
Mrs. Horton was a Cashier for Grants in North Kingstown, served as a C.N.A. at Roberts Health Center then worked at Crossroads Day Care. She was a member of the Beechwood House Senior Center and the Essex Village Social Club and a volunteer for the North Kingstown Pet Refuge.
She was the beloved mother of Mary M. âMayâ Brown of Warwick and Marguerite A. âMaggieâ Read, RN of West Greenwich. Loving grandmother of nine and great grandmother of nine. She was the sister of the late James and Alan Milne.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life Gathering on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 from 5:00-9:00 pm at The Read Residence, 217 Robin Hollow Road, West Greenwich.
