(10/08/15) COOPER, Maurice A. Sr., 89, of Pilgrim Ave., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015 at Kent Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Mary J. (Castaldi) Cooper, they had been married for 66 years. Born in Coventry, a son of the late Frederick and Florence (Kelley) Cooper. Mr. Cooper was a pipe fitter with General Dynamics in Groton and Quonset Naval Air Station for many years before retiring. He also worked for the Coventry Recreational Department. He was a WW II Navy Veteran and one of the last survivors of D Day. He was a member of the National Association of LST 309, East Greenwich Veteran Fireman’s Club, VFW and American Legion of Sandwich, MA. Besides his wife he leaves two sons, Maurice A. Cooper, Jr. (Patricia) of Jacksonville, FL and Gary Cooper (Barbara) of Duxbury, MA; a daughter, Kathleen Fanning (Michael) of Coventry; a brother, Charles Cooper of Greene, RI; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Doris Armstrong, Wilfred and Ernest Cooper. His funeral will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015 at 9 am from The PRATA-GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 78 Providence St., West Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am in SS. John & Paul Church, 341 South Main St., Coventry. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, West Warwick. Visiting hours Friday, 4-7 pm.
