(10/18/15) Gorman, Gerald J. Cmdr. WWPD Ret., 71, after a two year fight with colon and liver cancer has passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2015. For 48 wonderful years, Mr. Gorman was the husband of Barbara A. (Johnson) of West Warwick. Born in Providence, RI he was the son of the late Andrew V. Gorman and Audrey E. (Johnson) Leveille and step-son of the late Roger C. Leveille.
Mr. Gorman was an esteemed police officer who for 26 years honorably, worked on the West Warwick Police Department. He was well thought of from his colleagues and proudly retired as Commander of the WWPD and later working for Brinks Security and Diebold ATM security services.
Prior to his career in law enforcement, he served 8 years in the U.S. Naval Air Reserve and was a journeyman jet engine mechanic at Quonset Point Air Base. He was honorably discharged with the rank of an E-6 and swiftly worked full time on the WWPD.
Besides his wife Barbara, he is survived by his three sons: Patrick Gorman (his wife Tami) of West Warwick, RI, Peter Gorman of Hanscom Air Force Base Bedford, MA and Paul Gorman (his wife Emily Hoder) of Lincoln, RI and six grandchildren and his step-grandchildren; two siblings: Charlene Hoffacker and Steven C. Leveille. He was predeceased by a sister Linda E. Leveille.
Immediate friends and family are invited to his funeral service, located at Shepherd of the Valley United Methodist Church, 604 Seven Mile Road, Scituate, RI at 10 am on Monday, October 26.
Visitation for all to come will be at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, RI on Sunday from 2-5 PM.
