(08/14/10) Irving T. Payne, Sr., 80, of Robert Street, West Warwick passed away Thursday at home. He was the former husband of Marsha I. (Spencer) Payne. Born in North Kingstown, he was a son of the late George C. and Elizabeth (Gavitt) Payne.
Mr. Payne was an Equipment Operator for the Highway and Sanitation Departments of the Town of Coventry. He served in The United States Army during the Korean War. He was also a Shop Steward for the Coventry Police Department, a Correctional Officer in New Hampshire and a Mason.
He was the beloved father of Irving T. Payne, Jr., Paul Payne and Ann Brown, all of Coventry and Melody Caole, Marion Demers, Crystal Wyman, Dina Payne and Kerry Payne, all of West Warwick. Caring brother of George C. Payne, Jr. of Bristol and the late Evelyn Payne. Cherished grandfather of fifteen and great grandfather of six.
His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday at 10:00 am in THE PRATA-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Monday 4-7 pm.
